The new Prius Prime base, which is the second generation of the Japanese automaker's TNGA-C architecture, is stiffer, lighter and has a lower center point than the previous generation TNGA-C. The more powerful engine, coupled with the car's electric motors, provides an additional 99 horsepower, while a new lithium-ion battery provides a range of 65 km.
The 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine from last year is no longer used. In its place is a larger engine with a volume of 2 liters and a capacity of 160 horsepower. It works with two electric motors. The total power is 220 horsepower.
The Prius Prime is only available with front-wheel drive, although Toyota may offer all-wheel drive at an additional cost.
